On the day of the 1984 race, the Prača slope was perfectly prepared for the registered female skiers from 13 different countries, with a total of 32 competitors. The race started at an altitude of 1,832 meters, and the finish line was located at 1,325 meters, resulting in a vertical drop of 547 meters. The slope was 1,965 meters long and was marked with 28 gates, providing the challenge and technical difficulty required for the highest sports standards. On race day, the temperatures were extremely low, -14 °C at the start and -13 °C at the finish, adding excitement and tension to the atmosphere.
Competition and Significance
Although the famous Austrian skier Annemarie Moser-Pröll, the 1980 Olympic champion, did not compete in Sarajevo, the Olympic race on the Prača ski slope remains memorable for its exciting competition and high results. Only two competitors did not finish the race, which speaks to the technical difficulty and perfect preparation of the slope.
